As I strolled through the airport recently I did one of my favorite activities – people watched. It was interesting as I could openly see what dominated peoples lives – their time, energy and effort. While that might sound strange I think it will make sense with these people:
• The Body-builder guy – who obviously spent several hours a day on his workout, food prep and routine.
• The Fashionista – who looked at herself in every reflection possible. Shopping has to be a consuming part of her life along with primping, getting dressed and talking about it with her friends.
• The All-work guy – who used every moment of his time in the Sky club talking business. As chance would have it we were walking to the same gate. He talked all the way up to the door shutting and the flight attendant prying the phone from his grasp. He then cranked out all types of reports during the flight and began the talk directly upon landing.
Think about this fact, what we possess or long to possess can actually possess us. Like the wealthy couple who are consumed by managing what they possess so to can the hobbies or routines of our life possess us.
Health and clothes and work are made for us not us for them. What in your life is dominating you? What is controlling you beyond reasonableness?
I encourage you to take a moment to recalibrate. Think for a moment about controlling the things that control you so you can be more in line with the person you truly want to be. Moderation is your friend.
