As we were watching the U.S. Olympic Trials there was an illustration from an announcer on the art and science of getting off the starting blocks perfectly if you want to win an Olympic Medal. The announcer gave illustrations about the combination of expectation, visualization and energy in athletes. It got me thinking about how we all start our days.

Take 3 minutes and make two lists. One, list how you normally start your days from wake up until you start your work. List in detail what you usually do, not what you have done once or twice. For instance, “I wake up, work out for X amount of time, shower, eat, read an inspirational book, then drive to work.” Whatever you do, list it. We are looking for how you start the race of your day.

On the second list make your trades. Look at what you do from your first list and decide if there is something on that list you want to trade up for so you can get off the blocks better. For instance, if you wake up at 7AM you may want to trade up to 6:00 to really get ready.

3 Minutes of work today can help you start your day better tomorrow. No telling how many people you could influence by starting your days better.
